DJI Drones Beginner’s Guide | Official Tutorials for New Users
Just unboxed your new DJI drone and not sure where to begin? This guide points you straight to the official DJI Beginner's Guide for every drone model we carry at DJI US Store — so you can skip the guesswork and get flying with confidence. Whether you're still deciding which drone to buy or you're ready to take off for the first time, find your model below and follow the official tutorial.
DJI Mavic 4 Pro — Official Beginner's Guide
DJI Mavic 4 Pro is DJI's current flagship consumer drone, built for shooters who want cinematic-level control and image quality. The official Beginner's Guide covers a lot of ground: unboxing checklist, Intelligent Flight Battery activation and charging, remote controller pairing, obstacle avoidance setup, and how to take off and land manually or with Auto Takeoff.
On the creative side, the guide walks through the Infinity Gimbal's 360° rotation — a feature unique to the Mavic 4 Pro that allows full roll-axis camera movement. It also covers FocusTrack (which includes ActiveTrack, Spotlight, and Point of Interest), QuickShots, MasterShots, and Hyperlapse. For footage management, there's a dedicated section on QuickTransfer and how to export files via USB-C cable or card reader.
New to flying? The guide strongly recommends using DJI Fly's built-in flight simulator before your first real flight — it's a low-risk way to get comfortable with the controls.

DJI Mini 5 Pro — Official Support Resources
DJI Mini 5 Pro is DJI's most capable lightweight drone, with a 1-inch CMOS image sensor and a takeoff weight of 249.9 g — keeping it below the 250 g FAA registration threshold in many recreational use cases. A dedicated Beginner's Guide is not yet available for this model, but the official support page is well-stocked: it includes tutorial videos for first-time setup (both DJI RC 2 and DJI RC-N3 versions), the gimbal's roll-axis rotation, ActiveTrack subject tracking, QuickShots, the Fly More Combo charging hub, and more. The FAQ section also covers common questions about the O4+ video transmission system and firmware updates.

DJI Mini 3 — Official Beginner's Guide
DJI Mini 3 is a mid-range option in DJI's lightweight lineup. According to DJI's product page, with the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus, it achieves a max flight time of up to 51 min. The official Beginner's Guide is one of the most thorough entry-level resources DJI offers.
It starts with a critical reminder: always remove the gimbal protector before powering on the drone. From there, it walks through activation via DJI Fly, remote controller connection, battery charging and maintenance, and a full pre-flight checklist. Feature coverage includes QuickShots (Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, and Boomerang modes), Native Vertical Shooting (portrait orientation without quality loss), and QuickTransfer for wirelessly moving footage to a smartphone. The guide also includes a dedicated flight safety section covering GEO Zone awareness and recommended settings for Return to Home (RTH).
DJI Mini 4K — Official Support Resources
DJI Mini 4K is DJI's most accessible entry-level drone, designed for first-time flyers on a tighter budget. A dedicated Beginner's Guide is not currently available for this model. We recommend visiting DJI's official support page for tutorials, downloads, and support resources as they become available.
DJI Neo 2 — Official Beginner's Guide
DJI Neo 2 is one of DJI's lightest consumer drones, and its biggest distinction is the variety of ways you can fly it. The official Beginner's Guide introduces four distinct control methods in detail:
- Palm Control — Palm Takeoff & Landing and gesture-based shooting without any remote controller
- Mobile App Control — virtual joystick in DJI Fly, plus SelfieShot for solo and group framing
- Remote Controller (DJI RC-N3) — standard stick-based flight control
- Motion Controller (DJI RC Motion 3 + DJI Goggles N3) — immersive first-person flight experience
The guide also covers omnidirectional obstacle sensing setup, activation, QuickTransfer, and post-flight file export.

Practical Tips for DJI Drone Beginners
Before your first flight with any DJI drone, keep these in mind:
- Activate and update firmware first. Open DJI Fly, connect your drone, and complete activation before doing anything else. A firmware update prompt will usually follow — install it. Many intelligent features require the latest version to function correctly.
- Check GEO Zone restrictions. Use the "Before You Fly" tab in DJI Fly to review flight restrictions near your location. You can also reference the FAA's rules for recreational flyers for US-specific guidance.
- Use the flight simulator. The DJI Fly flight simulator is available for Mavic 4 Pro (via DJI RC Pro 2) and referenced in several Beginner's Guides. It's the safest way to practice before taking your drone outdoors.
